Led by Professor Anthony Harris and Associate Professor Mayuresh Korgaonkar, the Brain Dynamics Centre (BDC) is committed to pioneering brain research that will give us a new understanding of mental wellbeing, and the cause and treatment of disorders of mental health.Nearly one in two Australians will experience some form of mental illness at some stage during their life. It is the largest cause of non-fatal disability of any disease in the country and the largest cause of death for people between the ages of 15 and 44 years of age. Our research aims to foster mental health for individuals by improving personal level care, and to change the way mental health is understood, researched and treated throughout the world. Our studies use neuroimaging and electroencephalography (EEG) to look at biological markers for mental health disorders so that we can personalise treatments and therapies to best suit each individual. We also conduct clinical trials using digital health, psychotherapy or medication to improve outcomes. Our insights will ultimately be used to bring about early identification, the best treatment and the prevention of mental illness.

Recent achievements
- Commissioning and researching simultaneous EEG-fMRI
- A cutting-edge and new technology to advance understanding of the neural mechanisms that underlie mental health conditions. This study has so far recruited over 100 participants across mood disorders and healthy individuals to develop a valuable knowledge base using this new technology
- New study to develop digital technology and wearables to track mental health in patients with severe mental illnesses.
- A new MRFF funded clinical trial underway that explores use of genotype-guided pharmacotherapy for Depression.
