Biography

A/Prof Gerald Liew is an academic ophthalmologist with expertise in general eye conditions, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusions. He is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Retina Associates in Sydney, Staff Specialist at Westmead Hospital, Visiting Medical Officer at the Children’s Hospital, Westmead, and Associate Professor with the University of Sydney. Gerald’s research focuses on the epidemiology of major eye diseases in particular macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, their underlying pathophysiology, and novel methods to better image and treat these disorders. Current research opportunities include the Australian Eye and Ear Health Survey, and the metabolomics of macular degeneration.
