Biography
Nick Norris is a Postdoctoral Research Associate whose research focuses on pancreatic beta-cell biology and the development of therapeutic strategies for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.
Nick completed his PhD at the University of Sydney, where his thesis centred on the characterization of insulin secretory granules, their dynamics, and how metabolic stressors such as fatty acids impact granule composition and release. His work has combined advanced proteomics, imaging, and functional studies to uncover novel insulin granule proteins and mechanisms regulating insulin secretion and β-cell health.
Research interests
Beta-cells, Diabetes, Endocrinology, Pancreas transplantation
Additional information
In the Centre for Diabetes, Obesity and Endocrinology Research, Nick’s current research continues to investigate mechanisms underlying beta-cell function, including beta-cell replacement strategies. He is particularly interested in addressing challenges in early human islet graft loss, immune attack, and inadequate functional capacity of transplanted beta-cells.
In addition to his work on β-cell biology, Nick is also involved in collaborative projects in endocrine and metabolic health, exploring the role of the Vitamin D receptor in muscle regeneration, as well as studies in bone biology.
Projects:
- Increasing beta-cell proliferation to cure diabetes
- Role of Vitamin D Receptor on Muscle Regeneration.
