Biography
Dr Qian (Sophie) Shen is a Senior Research Scientist at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research. She completed her PhD in Medical Science at the Australian National University (ANU), where her research focused on epigenetic regulation. Sophie then undertook postdoctoral training at the John Curtin School of Medical Research (ANU) and the Francis Crick Institute (UK), investigating the development and regulatory functions of early-life B cells.
Sophie has also been working as Deputy Director of the China-Australia Centre for Personalised Immunology. This collaboration was set up to understand the causes of rare autoimmune diseases, connecting academic and clinical experts from the Centre for Personalised Immunology in Australia and the Department of Rheumatology in Shanghai Renji hospital. She has been supervising personnel and projects over the years, and the centre have been published many high-quality research articles and have two independent PIs and two PhD graduates. A core part of her role as a deputy director is to support talented and dedicated scientists and the centre.

Early life B cells, Autoimmune Disease (Systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren’s syndrome. Multiple Sclerosis), Aging, Cirrhosis.
