Biography

Sanjay Swaminathan is a clinician scientist with a strong interest in the interaction between viruses and the development of autoimmunity. As a clinical immunologist, he looks after many patients with autoimmune disorders and is keen to understand how viruses, such as EBV, may contribute to autoimmunity by drilling down on various molecular pathways. His lab has explored how the EBV transcription factor EBNA2 may drive the expression of autoimmune risk genes in both SLE and multiple sclerosis. More recent work has been exploring newer models of studying EBV viruses using the patient’s own viruses to produce spontaneous cell lines.
