Westmead Bioresources

The Westmead Bioresources Facility (WBF) is a centralised state of the art animal facility that is accessible for users across the Westmead precinct as well as external entities.

WBF staff are dedicated, experienced and supportive from everyday husbandry to specialised techniques, we can cater for all project needs and are happy to provide support or advice to streamline projects undertaken within the facility.

Our facility includes procedure rooms complete with anaesthetic machines and various equipment all of which can be booked online via PPMS for WRH Core. We also have specialised rooms and equipment that can also be arranged for use via a job request form also on PPMS.

We offer a comprehensive induction and training package, along with numerous additional services and we support the import of animals from a wide range of venders and facilities with strict consideration to health status. Our two main suppliers are ABR and Ozgene-ARC.

Working closely with Westmead Pre-clinical Imaging and Histology, we communicate frequently to facilitate and ensure all user needs are met.

Animal Research at WIMR

Approval to conduct animal research at WIMR must be obtained before any animal research can be undertaken. The WBF Manager is available to assist with reviewing your applications to the Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC).

The WSLHD AEC accepts submissions by 3pm on the Wednesday two weeks prior to the scheduled meeting on a Friday at 1:30pm. Any submissions received after this date will be held for the next meeting. The WSLHD IBC accept submissions by 5pm 2 weeks prior o the scheduled meeting on a Wednesday at 2:30pm.
